Although I have lived in South Jersey my whole life, I have never actually learned about the Jersey Devil. I had heard of it, but I had always dismissed it as just being too ridiculous to spend any time with. However, after reading the stories in this lecture, I am far more interested in it now. I still think it is absolutely insane to believe that a woman can give birth to a creature like this. It just is not logical. However, I think it is natural to be intrigued and even creeped out by some of the stories of witnesses. I think it is likely that many people who go looking for the Devil will create images and noises in their head to trick them into thinking there is something there, when there is not.
Michael, I definitely agree with the story not being logical. I have known about this story for most of my life and I think of it as karma. The "be careful what you wish for" type of thing, scare people, but also teach lessons to people who have never heard the story of the Jersey Devil.
ReplyDeleteHello Michael, I also have lived in south jersey my whole life and never really paid attention to the idea of the jersey devil. I think it's a really interesting idea that there is a creature roaming around potentially even near our own campus. I wonder how I would feel walking around campus at night once it is safe to do so, now that I have more background on the creature. I don't really believe it, but the mind does play tricks on you in the dark!
ReplyDeleteHello Michael, I also live in South Jersey and have heard many different stories about the Jersey Devil and how it came about and have just dismissed it all. After reading more about it I do think that it keeps me wanting to learn more about the subject as a whole because I'm into creepy topics like this. I already freak myself out at night being outside alone so this topic just made me get goose bumps reading because of some noises you hear outside you never know, maybe it was the Jersey Devil.
