One of my favorite alien abduction cases to read over is known as the Allagash Incident. The incident occurred in 1976, in the Allagash area of Maine. Four friends who all went to school in Massachusetts had decided to take a trip to Maine and go camping and fishing for a few days. The group of men shared a camp sight with another group, who were there to find two missing teens who had gone missing earlier that day. The four men decided to help their neighbors and trek around the nearby lake for any sign of them. Between the two groups, they ended up finding the two teens but not without seeing a bright light disappear amongst the stars first. The next night, the men decided to go night fishing and in doing so, built a large campfire so they would know their way back. While out fishing, they noticed a strange light as they did the night before. However, it seemed the light was gradually moving closer to the men. One of the men shined an SOS signal at it with a flashlight and as soon as he did, a beam of light shined down onto the men. Without realizing it, the men had ended up back onshore and the light was even closer than before. The same man blinked his flashlight at it again, this time, the orb taking off and disappearing into the night.
The bonfire they had lit previously was extinguished, a process which would have taken multiple hours to do naturally despite the men only feeling like they had been out for an hour or two. The men, dazed and exhausted, had decided to call it a night and go to sleep. When they woke the next morning, they decided to go to the park ranger and describe what they saw. The park ranger dismissed it, believing it was just the searchlight from a nearby hardware store that had just opened. Though of course, the four men were skeptical of this. The false memory lecture ties in with the rest of the story, so a separate post will be in order.
