There is fast thinking and slow thinking. Thinking slowly is how science is done and how we get correct answers and actually solve problems. Using fast thinking people use leaps in logic and are often wrong. Pseudoscience uses fast thinking that causes the results that they get to not be largely expected and why it is not accepted as a branch of science. Using critical thinking is what science does. People always tell you that you should be thinking critically and that is because that will get you actual concrete answers. To me based on those reasons fast thinking does not have that much value. Slow thinking is the really important way of thinking that should be used all the time.

It's amazing to me how many people default to "fast thinking" and do not think critically. People simply accept things at face value and can't distinguish the fantastical from reality. Of course, as we've learned, critical thinking is not our default setting as humans - accepting the status quo is - so I suppose it's not all that shocking since we are wired that way! What is most amazing to me, though, is that today, we have more information more easily available than ever before, instantly accessible at any time on our smart phones, yet the majority of people would rather continue to accept and spread rumors, believe urban legends and psychics, etc. The cat has been out of the bag, standing on the table staring people in the face, but they'd rather look past it and see a reality that better fits their belief system. It's truly incredible.
