Growing up with a twin sister, almost all of my memories involve her. More recently I have been going through old pictures and because we were so young even I can't tell the difference between us in photos. Instead, we try to remember the moment that was captured by the photo. I found a picture of my twin sister and older sister the first day we got our puppy, I was about 7 years old. I started telling the story about the first day we got her and pointed out that that was me in the picture and I remember being there. However, I came to find out that I was in fact not in the picture, it was my twin sister. Somehow I saw the picture and, thinking that it was me, constructed a false memory of being there. This has happened many times to the both us, recalling events that we were both pretty sure were accurate but turned out to be false. Included is a link to an article that explains more about false memories and how exactly your memories work.
