The Jersey Devil is a very well known legend throughout New Jersey and its surrounding areas. Its origin however is not as well known. All of the stories have the name "Leeds" included in it though. Some stories say that the devil was born in Leeds Point, NJ, while some stories say that a Mrs. Leeds gave birth to the devil. The several possible mothers of this creature had either cursed the unborn child themselves, or it had been cursed by other villagers. The sightings date back to the early 19th century and have continued up until the 1980's. The witnesses for the most part all mention a huge flying creature that leaves strange hoof prints in the ground that disappear. The devil has been known to kill animals such as dogs, cats, ducks, and geese. No one knows for sure though what this supposed 260 year old creature really is or if it ever really existed.
